A/W'18 KEY PIECES: PART II

Straight into it. Part II:

BAGS

I'm not incredibly seasonal when it comes to bags, apart from, say - I wouldn't really use a wicker or straw bag in winter - ha. However, there's something about velvet, textures, and black & gold this time of year - also a big fan of backpacks, as it gets into I-have-to-hold-an-umbrella-every-bloody-day kinda territory.

Key Styles:
Dior - Saddle
Chloe - Tess
Saint Laurent - LouLou Backpack
Gucci - Shoulder Bag
Loewe - Tweed Puzzle
Alexander Wang - Attica
Saint Laurent - Vicky

LIGHT KNITS

There are so many knit variations, I gotta break 'em down. In this section, I've picked pieces that I feel are easy to layer - so if the temperature drops, you can easily layer up with a vest/shirt/turtleneck etc, but atm - keep it simple & wear it solo.

Key Styles:
All Saints - Byers Jumper
Alexander Wang - Sweatshirt
& Other Stories - Cropped Cardigan
Bella Freud - 1970 Fine Knit
Gucci - GG Lurex Cardigan
Weekday - Claudia Sweater
TopShop - Ottoman Stripe
By The Way - Bobbie V-Neck
All Saints - Mali Crew
& Other Stories - Cotton-Blend Sweater
TopShop - Soft Jumper

BLAZERS

Wanna look like you have all your shit together? A pair of jeans, white tee and great blazer: done.

Key Styles:
Anine Bing - Madeleine Checked
TopShop - Checked Jersey
& Other Stories - Plaid
Warehouse - Short Blazer
All Saints - Aleida
Anine Bing - Grace

A/W'18 KEY PIECES: PART I

We're approaching my absolute fav time of year.

For dressing, especially. However. You know it - I am another one of those girls that obsesses over the change in colours, leaves falling, crisp mornings...and, of course - Hallowe'en. Obvs.

I tend to reach for the same array of items every Sept/Oct - & whilst I love to invest in new pieces, I wear the same items from years ago - or style them in new ways. I love to 'upgrade' a piece I've been loving, too. Example: first time I bought a loafer it wasn't the Gucci one. I kinda road tested a TopShop loafer, to see how much I wore that style...then saved up for the real deal...that kinda thing. I digress...

Let's get into some key pieces. Part I:

KILLER BOOT

Pretty much my go-to all year, but esp. Sept-Jan. For me, imperative features include: being super comfortable, warm & versatile. A snake embossed on the back is an added bonus.

Key Styles:
Gucci - Sylvie
Jeffrey Campbell - Check Lace-Up
Dr. Martens - Molly
Calvin Klein - Claire
Ganni - Callie

EASY-TO-STYLE COAT

A coat you can style with everything - it keeps you warm, can handle layers underneath, has pockets...The kinda timeless piece you'll always wear.

Key Styles:
& Other Stories - Over-Sized
& Other Stories - Belted Wool
& Other Stories - A-Line Wool

CHECKED SKIRT

Nothing says autumn like checks & plaid: nothing. A mini skirt you can go tight-less with rn, and then add tights + long socks to as the chill creeps in. Love it with a chunky boot.

Key Styles:
TopShop - Yellow Mini
TopShop - Mixed Buckle
Tomas Maier - Checked Cotton
Free People - High Waist Plaid
McQ Alexander McQueen - Wool-Blend

*pls don't take these posts as 'OMG I-need-to-go-and-buy-22813-things', but more - how can I use what I have? Do I need or really want a new coat? Which, say, two items should I invest in? Etc, etc. Ly, bye*

Autumn Edit

I may have mentioned once or twice that autumn is my fav time of year. Halloween, rusty colours, birthday month (heyyy) light layers...it's just so beautiful when everything is dying. Ha.
So, this being said - I thought I'd do something a little different from my standard 'here's 3 pics of what I'm wearing' post & create an autumn edit for your perusal. Let's get into it...
1) Knitwear - an obvious one - but most def worth a good mention. Jumpers, cardigans, turtlenecks in blacks, deep reds and mustard tones...these will be items you'll pick up again and again over the cooler months.
2) Blazers - the easy way to make you look put together when you totally don't feel it. Personally, I'm a big fan of a velvet blazer - but houndstooth, plain, checked...you name it, as soon as you own one, you'll be seeking your next. Great with denim, skirts, pinafores, vinyl...everrrrything.
3) Pointed Ankle Boots - elongate your legs and feel mega fancy. A solid wardrobe staple, and will see you through spring. High on my wish-list are these Balenciaga babies.
4) Black Denim - the one you can wear pretty much anywhere, depending on how you style it. I love the TopShop Mom Jeans - high waisted and a killer washed look. With a chunky knit for a relaxed weekend, and a tucked in tee, blazer and previously mentioned boots for that date night.
5) Hats - overall, a lot of people seem to think they 'can't wear hats'. Firstly, I 100% don't believe in not being able to wear stuff - you can wear whatever you please. Secondly, I shall run you through why hats rule - a) bad hair days - gone, b) cold head? Ears? Problem solved, c) feel your outfit is a little...off balance? Hats create a great balanced silhouette...like, in my opinion.
6) Bags - OK, OK. I was always gonna mentions bags because - BAGS. However, ponder on this - it's cold. You're wearing that same coat again, hiding that outfit you so wonderfully put together. Add in an excellent bag you possibly saved half a year for, et voila! Outfit looks spot on. Velvet, quilted and gold is perfection for this time of year.
